Uncanny X-Men # 121: "Shoot-Out at the Stampede!"

Synopsis:
The X-Men track Alpha Flight to the Calgary Stampede grounds where they find Nightcrawler and Wolverine being held captive. Alpha Flight confronts the X-Men and let them know that they can leave, but Wolverine has to stay behind. A battle erupts and Alpha Flight is given its first true battle test. Alpha Flight performs well and is a good match for the X-Men. However, Wolverine calls an end to the fight and surrenders. The Canadian authorities take him into custody while the X-Men are escorted back to the States. By the time they've entered US air space they discover that Wolverine has already escaped and is aboard.

Synopsis:
Wolverine reminds a homesick Colossus that X-Men are a family now. Cyclops spends some quality time with Colleen Wing. A universe away, Professor X attends the coronation of Lilandra as the Majestrix of the Shi'ar race. Storm pays a visit to Harlem where her parents met and she's disturbed by what she finds there. Power Man and Misty Knight rescue her from an attack by junkies. In Scotland, Jean Grey has a run in with Jason Wyngarde, who is secretly Mastermind, and has his eye on the power of the Phoenix. And finally, Black Tom and the Juggernaut retain the services of the an assassin named Arcade to kill the X-Men.

Synopsis:
Despite Spider-Man's best attempts, Arcade begins his game and collects the X-Men one-by-one. The X-Men awake to find themselves within Arcade's murderworld and they're quickly divided up and dispatched to their custom designed death traps. Cyclops and Wolverine fight their way out of their traps, but are confronted by a brainwashed Colossus who's now calling himself the Proletarian.

Synopsis:
Cyclops and Wolverine manage to evade Colossus/Proletarian and help free their teammates. Colossus/Proletarain attacks again, but before he's able to do any serious damage, they break through his brainwashing. Cyclops and Nightcrawler  disrupt Arcade's control center forcing Arcade to capitulate. Oddly enough, he frees the X-Men and the hostages he had captured.

Synopsis:
Moira MacTaggert begins studying the extent of Phoenix's almost unlimited powers. Jason (Mastermind) Wyngarde continues to chip away at Jean's mind. Moira discovers that Mutant X has escaped and that he has already left a trail of bodies behind. A frantic call to the states alerts the X-Men, who have just been reunited with the Beast and learn that Jean's also alive, and they make their way to Muir Island.

Synopsis:
The X-Men reach Muir Island and discover the threat of Mutant X has temporarily passed since he has fled the research compound. After getting up to speed and learning that Mutant X is Moira's son, the X-Men search the country side for Mutant X. Meanwhile, Mastermind continues to erode Jean's sanity. Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and Storm are the first to confront Mutant X, who calls himself Proteus, and are unfortunately subjected to his power reality altering powers.

Synopsis:
Moira comes to the X-Men's rescue and drives off Proteus, who's desperate for a new host. The X-Men regroup and set off in pursuit of Proteus. Meanwhile, Moira confronts her "husband" and warns him that he may be Proteus' next target. Despite the warning, Proteus claims his father's body and takes Moira hostage as the X-Men arrive to confront him.

Synopsis:
Proteus unleashes the full potential of his power in downtown Edinburgh. The X-Men mount a desperate attack to rescue Moira and to force Proteus to drain the vitality from his host body. They succeed on both counts and Colossus, since Proteus is vulnerable to metal, finishes Proteus off.

Synopsis:
The X-Men finally return home after the Proteus affair without the Banshee who has decided to stay with Moira. Of course there's no rest for the wicked as Cerebro detects two new mutants. Unfortunately, the Hellfire Club has Cerebro tapped and dispatch their agents. Xavier, Wolverine, Colossus, and Storm meet up with Kitty Pryde and her parents to discuss Kitty's entrance into Xavier's school. The X-Men reveal their identities to Kitty just in time to be attacked by the Hellfire Club agents. The X-Men are captured when the White Queen attacks, but Kitty gets away.

Synopsis:
Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Phoenix investigate the other mutant presence detected by Cerebro. Jason Wyngarde continues his invasion of Jean's mind and the Black Queen persona begins to surface. The Dazzler makes her nightclub debut and they realize that she's the mutant. Kitty gets a hold of them and lets them know about their captured teammates. However, the Hellfire Club agents attack. The Dazzler helps the X-Men defeat them.
